Truls Island
assumed position of Truls Island |
In January 1930, the Norwegian whaling ship Truls sighted in the subpolar, southern Indian Ocean at 56 ° 07 'S; 23 39'E a cliff 33 m high called Truls Island . The vain attempt at a re-sighting made in October of the same year the Norvegia ; the viewing radius was 38 km. At the specified position, a depth of 4,400 m was plumbed. Since Truls Island was never sighted again later, it can be assumed with certainty that the crew of the whaling ship Truls was deceived by a dark, rock-colored iceberg .
