The Trusetal waterfall is the highest waterfall in the Thuringian Forest . It is located in the town of Brotterode-Trusetal and is not a naturally created natural phenomenon, but an artificially created attraction.

investment

In 1865 the waterfall was created by Trusetal miners under the supervision of Baurat Specht. The water from the Truse below Brotterode is diverted through a dam . First, the 3.5 km long, artificially created waterfall ditch winds with an even, low gradient through the edge of the forest in an arc to the south-west and finally north-west towards the district of Laudenbach , then again approaches the actual river valley 500 m before the village in a southern arc. At the Öhmigshauk , the Trusetal waterfall first plummets over two smaller falls and then over the granite rocks over 50 m into a collecting basin. The water then flows back into the Truse.

The Trusetal waterfall is only open from Easter to the end of October each year. In the winter months, the water supply is shut off to prevent frost damage to the rock backdrop. A circular hiking trail, which begins with 228 steps at the waterfall, leads through the area of this attraction. Accompanying festive events are the waterfall festival, which takes place every year in July, and a small summer market. In the vicinity, interested visitors can visit the Trusetal Dwarf Park right next door.

reachability

The waterfall is also very accessible for people with disabilities. It is located directly on the state road L 1024 to Brotterode. A tourist attraction was created in its vicinity with the Dwarf Park as a second attraction.
