geography

Brotterode-Trusetal is located in the north of the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in the Thuringian Forest on the upper reaches of the Truse . In the north, the border of the city is also the border between the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen and the district of Gotha , in the east the municipality of Floh-Seligenthal borders the urban area, in the south the municipalities of Fambach and Breitungen / Werra . In the west, the city limits are also the border between the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district and the Wartburg district. The Rennsteig marks the northern boundary of Brotterode , in its course you come across the Beerberg grotto , it is located on the western slope of the Beerbergstein .

history

Structure of the town of Brotterode-Trusetal

The municipality of Trusetal was created on July 1, 1950 through the merger of the districts of Herges-Auwallenburg , Trusen , Elmenthal and Laudenbach . The district of Wahles was incorporated in 1994.

On December 1, 2011, the town of Brotterode was incorporated into the Trusetal community. The mayors of the two municipalities involved signed the integration contract on December 22, 2010, which provided for the renaming of the company to Brotterode-Trusetal and the granting of town charter on December 1, 2011. The basis was the Thuringian law for the voluntary reorganization of municipalities belonging to the district in 2011, which the Thuringian state parliament passed on November 16, 2011.

In the local elections on May 26, 2019, Kay Großmann was elected as the new mayor of Brotterode-Trusetal with 78.4% of the vote. He succeeded Tilo Storch, who died on January 21, 2019.

coat of arms

On a green background in the city coat of arms there is a silver seven-wave band at the top and below on the right, crossed mallets and irons in gold with a chisel perpendicular to it, and on the left, four golden cutting blades arranged in a cross. The seven-wave band symbolizes the river Truse and the number seven the number of places that make up the community. Mallets and chisels refer to mining history, the cutting blades are said to refer to the metal industry. The coat of arms combines elements of the coat of arms of the former places Brotterode (iron, mallets, chisels) and Trusetal (wavy ribbon, cutting blades).

Town twinning

Twin cities of Brotterode-Trusetal are Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux in the French department of Isère (since 1966) and Bad Vilbel and Nentershausen in Hessen (both since 1990). A friendship treaty connects the city with Hachenburg in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Sports

The Rennsteig near Brotterode is used all year round as a cycle and long-distance hiking trail, in winter there are groomed trails and downhill slopes. Brotterode was an early center of winter sports in Thuringia since the 1920s. Various downhill slopes and training facilities for tobogganing and skiing were built around the large island mountain. The place was upgraded to a performance base during the GDR era, and the army sports club ASK Brotterode was the operator . On the outskirts is the Inselbergschanze , a venue for the ski jumping Continental Cup series of ski jumping competitions . Three memorial stones on the Inselsberg commemorate the deaths of prominent GDR athletes who died in accidents while training. The mountain rescue base Kurt-Lesser -Hütte is located on the southwest slope .
