Mehmels is a municipality in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia . It belongs to the administrative community Wasungen-Amt Sand , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Wasungen . Mehmels is located between the Thuringian Forest and the Hohe Rhön in the southwest of Thuringia.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1285 as Meynboldesdorf in a sales document approved by Count Heinrich II von Henneberg. From the late 13th century, Mehmels became fiefs of various landlords and monasteries and became a knight's seat in the middle of the 14th century through the noble family of the Aurochs . The place was in the Hennberg office Wasungen , which from 1680 belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .

Mehmels was persecuted by witches in 1612 : Two people were executed in the witch trials : Käthe Halbig and Anna Gramm.
