Mehmels is a municipality in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia . It belongs to the administrative community Wasungen-Amt Sand , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Wasungen . Mehmels is located between the Thuringian Forest and the Hohe Rhön in the southwest of Thuringia.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1285 as Meynboldesdorf in a sales document approved by Count Heinrich II von Henneberg. From the late 13th century, Mehmels became fiefs of various landlords and monasteries and became a knight's seat in the middle of the 14th century through the noble family of the Aurochs . The place was in the Hennberg office Wasungen , which from 1680 belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .

Mehmels was persecuted by witches in 1612 : Two people were executed in the witch trials : Käthe Halbig and Anna Gramm.

The L 2619 runs through the village from Oberkatz to Wasungen . At the junction of the district road K 2520 in the west of the village, which leads to Solz , there is the stone signpost from the beginning of the 20th century shown in the picture, another signpost from old times (year unrecognizable) is at the parish hall.

Mehmels is five kilometers southwest of Wasungen . The next connections to the regional transport network are located there with the Bundesstraße 19 and a train station on the parallel railway line Eisenach-Meiningen-Eisfeld . On weekdays, the bus routes 411 and 412 of Meininger Busbetriebs GmbH connect Mehmels with Meiningen .
