history
In 833, in a deed of donation from Count Christian I and his wife Heilwich to King Ludwig the Germans, the term 'Christaneshusun' was mentioned for the first time. Christian I was the father of the founder of the Rohr monastery. According to the latest research, it was probably founded around 870. Christes was then mentioned as Villa Christens . The local well ( Christ Born ) was assigned healing powers, so that pilgrimages took place from 1425 to the first half of the 16th century, which brought prosperity and importance to the place. From 1686, copper and silver were dug in the forester's pit on the 566 m high Kleiner Dolmar , the ores were smelted in a smelter near Schwarza. In 1695 mining came to a standstill due to an accident.
Christes initially belonged to the county of Henneberg , from 1660 to Sachsen-Zeitz , from 1718 to Kursachsen (in the office of Kühndorf ). Between 1500 and 1806 the place was in the Franconian Empire . From 1816 to 1944 Christes was part of the Erfurt administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony . Christes came to the Suhl district in the GDR in 1952 .
Christes was persecuted by witches from 1657 to 1681 : two women and a man got into witch trials , one woman was executed, one died in custody. The first victim in 1657 was Anna, Valentin Machentanz's wife.
