Utendorf is located around five kilometers north of the city center of the district town of Meiningen and two kilometers east of the Meiningen district of Jerusalem . A few kilometers northeast of the village rises with the 739 m high Dolmar an extinct volcano.
history
The village was initially a Henneberg fiefdom and since 1264 the property of the Lords of Kühndorf . In 1264 a part came to the Rohr monastery , but the whole village in 1307 to the order house in Kühndorf. The community was first clearly mentioned in a document in 1343. In 1380, however , the church village burned down completely and is not mentioned again until 1536.
After the division of the county of Henneberg-Schleusingen in 1660, the place came from the office Kühndorf to the office Wasungen . Since 1680 he belonged with this to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . In 1702 Utendorf was incorporated into the Meiningen office.
Utendorf was persecuted by witches from 1660 to 1674 : seven women were involved in witch trials . Catharina, Hans Kehl's wife, was burned in 1660.
Today, due to its location close to Meiningen, but without a through road, the small community is a popular place to live. A new building area was built on the outskirts in the 1990s.
