history
A castle stood on the spur-like foothills of the Tannenberg until 1513. There are hardly any remains of it. The successor building is a simple, formerly walled building. Gottfried Solz, named in 1183, was in the service of the Counts of Henneberg and thus confirms the existence of the castle. His family died out in 1274. Heirs were those of Wolfe, Herbilstadt and Marschalk . These have given their fiefdom to the Bishop of Würzburg . Wolf von Herbilstadt became a robber baron, so his castle was destroyed by the Hennebergers and the successor building was built later. Later the Lords of Baumbach had their knight seat in the village.
The place belonged to the old property of the County of Henneberg and when the Counts of Henneberg - Schleusingen died out in 1583, including the jurisdiction of lower jurisdiction, it was in noble hands, but belonged to the Amt of Maßfeld under sovereignty . With this he came to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen in 1680 .
The district of Solz was affected by the persecution of witches from 1611 to 1622 : six people were indicted in the witch trials , four people were executed, and the outcome of two trials is unknown. The first victim in 1611 was Margaretha, Hans Schmuck's widow.
