The village was first mentioned on October 4th, 1309. In Melkers, which belonged to the Henneberg office of Wasungen , the Counts of Henneberg -Schleusingen had possessions as early as 1317. Further acquisitions of goods followed in 1335. However, most of the place later passed into noble hands, but was still under the protection of the office, which from 1680 belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . The most favorable jurisdiction lay with the Lords of Diemar.
