Brachetto d'Acqui or simply Acqui is a sweet, Italian red wine from the provinces of Alessandria and Asti , Piedmont , which received DOCG status in 1996. It is available as a still wine , strongly sparkling ( Spumante ) or as a dessert wine ( Passito ).

Growing area

The main municipalities of the DOCG zone (since April 24, 1996, updated July 9, 2014) are Nizza Monferrato and Acqui Terme .

In 2017, 23,189 hectoliters of DOCG wine were produced.

Production regulations

The wine is about 97 to 100% from the grape variety Brachetto grapes. Mixing in other grape varieties that are approved for the Piedmont region is allowed from 0–3%. The wine may only be sold from October 1st of the year following the harvest year. It is intended to be enjoyed soon after purchase. Only then does it retain its freshness and slightly tingling structure. The wine is drunk at 8–10 ° C.
