Gavi (also called Cortese di Gavi ) is a dry Italian white wine . Since July 9, 1998, the denomination of origin from the province of Alessandria , Piedmont, has had the status of a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG), after the area was granted DOC status on June 26, 1974 . It is one of the most popular white wines in Italy. The white wine is made from 100% of the grape Cortese grapes. This is why some labels also have the name Cortese di Gavi ; Another synonym is Gavi di Gavi if he comes from the immediate vicinity of the municipality of Gavi . Since 1993 the consortium Tutela del Gavi , founded by Giorgio Soldati, the owner of the La Scolca winery , to which 180 wineries and producers with around 5000 employees belong, has taken care of the protection and marketing of the Gavi-DOCG.

Growing area

The Gavi quality wine is only produced in the municipalities of Bosio , Capriata d'Orba , Carrosio , Francavilla Bisio , Gavi , Novi Ligure , Parodi Ligure , Pasturana , San Cristoforo , Serravalle Scrivia and Tassarolo .
