Dolcetto di Dogliani or simply Dogliani is an Italian red wine from the province of Cuneo , Piedmont . After the area around Dogliani received the status of a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short) on June 21, 1974 , the long-term quality efforts were recognized on July 6, 2005 with the receipt of the DOCG status for the Dogliani and Dogliani Superiore . The appellation was last updated on April 17th, 2015.

Growing area

Cultivation and production of these wines is only possible in the municipal areas of Bastia Mondovì , Belvedere Langhe , Briaglia , Castellino Tanaro , Ciglie , Clavesana , Dogliani , Farigliano , Igliano , Marsaglia , Monchiero , Niella Tanaro , Piozzo , Rocca Cigliè and in parts of the municipalities of Carrù , Mondovì , Murazzano , Roddino , S. Michele Mondovì , Somano and Vicoforte .

In 2017, 29,840 hectoliters of quality wine were produced. The Dolcetto di Dogliani is made 100% from the Dolcetto grape variety . The wine must mature for at least 1 year at the winemaker's before being sold ; of which at least 6 months in oak barrels. At the buyer's premises, the wine can usually mature for more years if properly stored.
