Roero Arneis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roero Arneis is a monovarietal Italian white wine from the Roero growing area between Canale and Alba in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont . It is made from the old, autochthonous grape variety Arneis . This was almost extinct at the end of the 20th century, but is increasingly being cultivated again. In general, the Roero Arneis is rated better than the (slightly lighter) Langhe Arneis .

The white wine as well as the red wine from this area ( Roero ) have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1985 and DOCG status since December 7, 2004 . In 2016, 55,526 hectoliters of DOCG wines (including Roero) were produced on 814 hectares of vineyards.

A sparkling wine "Roero Arneis Spumante " is also produced in the growing area .

Growing area

The growing area is in the province of Cuneo . The wine may only be grown in the municipalities of Canale , Corneliano d'Alba , Piobesi d'Alba , Vezza d'Alba and in parts of the municipalities of Baldissero d'Alba , Castagnito , Guarene , Govone , Magliano Alfieri , Montà , Monteu Roero , Pocapaglia , Priocca , Santa Vittoria d'Alba , Santo Stefano Roero and Sommariva Perno .

generation

Roero Arneis must be made from at least 95% of the Arneis grape variety . A maximum of 5% other white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Piedmont may be added.

While the wine used to be made with a clear residual sweetness , today it is mostly fresh and fruity and has a pleasant acidity . It should be drunk young.
