List of grape varieties |
Brachetto is a red wine that is found almost exclusively in southern Piedmont , Italy . It has been grown in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria for many centuries .
Brachetto is an aromatic variety from which sweet and liqueur-like wines are made. Fast -variety Brachetto wines can be found at DOCG wine festivals Brachetto d'Acqui and Piemonte Brachetto . The grape variety is also permitted in the Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato . The Brachetto d'Acqui is slightly sparkling and has a strawberry taste.
A relationship between the Brachetto and the French grape variety Braquet Noir or Brachet is controversial, but the varietal characteristics speak against it.
Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In the grape variety ( ampelography ) the habit is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open. It is hairy with white wool and has a slight crimson tinge. The green young leaves are hairy like a cobweb and spotted bronze ( anthocyanin spots ).
- The medium-sized leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are not lobed or three-lobed and then barely curved. The stalk bay is closed like a lyre . The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium to large in size compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough.
- The cylindrical grape is medium-sized, lightly shouldered and dense berries. The round berries are medium-sized and black and blue in color. The juicy berries taste slightly nutmeg.
The high-yielding variety ripens around 20 days after the Gutedel and is therefore already considered to ripen late. Brachetto is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
