Piemonte is a collective term for all quality wines with a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) that are produced in the Italian wine-growing region "Piemonte Il Monferrato" and not one of the other defined denominations of Monferrato ( Cortese di Gavi , Barbera del Monferrato Superiore , Colli Tortonesi , Cortese dell'Alto Monferrato , Dolcetto d'Acqui , Gabiano , Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese , Monferrato , Rubino di Cantavenna ,Strevi , Barbera del Monferrato ).

Growing area

The approved viticulture zone is very extensive and includes many municipalities in the provinces of Alessandria , Asti , Cuneo , Turin , Novara , Biella , Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Vercelli .

In 2017, the amount of wines produced under this denomination was 177,345 hectoliters. (As of 2018).
