Valsusa is a small Italian wine-growing region with a controlled designation of origin ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) in the province of Turin , Piedmont region . This denomination has existed since 1997 and was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

The wine may only be produced within the following municipalities in the province of Turin : Almese , Borgone Susa , Bruzolo , Bussoleno , Caprie , Chianocco , Chiomonte , Condove , Exilles , Giaglione , Gravere , Mattie , Meana di Susa , Mompantero , Rubiana , San Didero , San Giorio di Susa , Susa and Villarfocchiardo .

The "Valsusa DOC" is a red wine that must consist of at least 60% Avanà , Barbera , Dolcetto and / or Neretta grape varieties (individually or together). The remaining maximum 40% may be other red grape varieties that are permitted for cultivation in the Piedmont region. A “Valsusa rosso novello” ( young wine ) is also produced.
