Cisterna d'Asti (wine)
Under the name of Cisterna d'Asti are Italian red wines from the region around Asti in Piedmont referred. They have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2002 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.
Growing area
The wine-growing area for the production of quality wine is very small. Cultivation is permitted in the following municipalities:
- in the province of Asti : Antignano , Cantarana , Cisterna d'Asti , Ferrere , San Damiano d'Asti and San Martino Alfieri
- in the province of Cuneo : Canale , Castellinaldo , Govone , Montà , Monteu Roero , Santo Stefano Roero and Vezza d'Alba .

Red wines with the name "Cisterna d'Asti" (also called Superiore ) are produced. The following grape varieties are required for production: at least 80% Croatina and a maximum of 20% red grape varieties (individually or together) that are approved for cultivation in Piedmont.

- Color : intense ruby red
- Smell : intense, fruity, characteristic
- Taste : vinous, delicate and harmonious, sometimes lively
- Alcohol content : at least 11.5 % by volume ; for superiors at least 12.0% by volume
- Acidity : at least 4.5 g / l
- Dry extract : at least 20.0 g / l; for superior at least 22 g / l
