Freisa d'Asti

Freisa d'Asti is an Italian red wine from the Asti province in the Piedmont region . The wine has had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1972 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The red wine is grown throughout the province of Asti, with the exception of the communes of Cellarego and Villanova d'Asti .

In 2016, 9,641 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced from 173 hectares. The wine is aged for 6 months to a year at the winemaker and can still age for about 2 years at the buyer.

It is made from 100% Freisa grape variety . Mostly red wines are as sparkling wine in the directions Frizzante or Spumante expanded, where even a slight residual sugar remains. In order to be allowed to use the designation Superiore , the wine must have matured by the producer by November 1st of the year following the harvest.
