Calamandrana is a municipality with 1702 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Asti (AT), Piedmont region .
geography
The place is located at an altitude of 151 m on the Belbo (river system of the Po ), between the hills of Asti and the Langhe . The municipality covers an area of 12 km² .
The neighboring municipalities are Canelli , Cassinasco , Castel Boglione , Nizza Monferrato , Rocchetta Palafea and San Marzano Oliveto .
Culinary specialties
In Calamandrana, vines are grown for the Dolcetto d'Asti , a red wine with DOC status. The berries of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties can be processed into Alta Langa sparkling wine . The Muscat grape for Asti Spumante , a sweet DOCG sparkling wine with a low alcohol content, and for the still wine Moscato d'Asti are also grown here. In Calamandrana, vines of the Barbera variety are also grown for the Barbera d'Asti , a red wine with DOCG status.
