Italian red , rosé and white wines from the area around Alba in the province of Cuneo in ( Piedmont ) are called Langhe . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1994 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

The Langhe wine region is one of the larger in Piedmont. In 2017, 96,498 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced.

  • "Langhe rosso": blended wine made from red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region.
  • "Langhe rosato" must be at least 60% from the grape varieties Barbera or Dolcetto or Nebbiolo exist. A maximum of 40% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in Piedmont may be added.
  • "Langhe bianco": blended wine made from white grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region.
  • "Langhe ...", followed by the characteristic grape variety : Arneis , Barbera , Cabernet Sauvignon , Chardonnay , Dolcetto , Favorita , Freisa , Merlot , Nascetta , Nebbiolo , Pinot nero , Riesling , Rossese bianco , Sauvignon . The grape variety mentioned must contain at least 85%. Up to a maximum of 15% grape varieties of the same color that are approved for cultivation in Piedmont may be added.

  • The wines with the designation "Langhe Arneis" may only be produced in the following municipal areas:
    • in the province of Cuneo: Alba, Baldissero d'Alba, Barbaresco, Canale, Castagnito, Castellinaldo, Corneliano d'Alba, Diano, Govone, Grinzane Cavour, Guarene, Magliano Alfieri, Mango, Montà, Montaldo Roero, Monteu Roero, Monticello d ' Alba, Neive, Neviglie, Piobesi d'Alba, Pocapaglia, Priocca, Roddi, Rodello, S. Vittoria d'Alba, S. Stefano Roero, Sommariva Perno, Treiso, Trezzo Tinella, Verduno, Vezza d'Alba.
