Cultivation

The wine-growing areas in the Sesia area (Northern Piedmont)

The production area is part of a historically important wine-growing region, which is located at the last foothills of the Alps on both sides of the Sesia River in the provinces of Vercelli , Biella and Novara . There are nine DOP wine zones, represented by the “Consorzio Tutela Nebbioli - Alto Piemonte” consortium: Gattinara DOCG , Ghemme DOCG , Boca DOC , Bramaterra DOC , Colline Novaresi DOC , Coste della Sesia DOC , Fara DOC , Lessona DOC and Sizzano DOC . The defining grape variety for the wines of these areas is the Nebbiolo .

The DOC Lessona is one of the smallest appellations in Italy and only covers the municipality of Lessona. The wines can optionally also be classified as Coste della Sesia DOC if they meet the relevant production conditions, as this appellation is regional and also includes the municipality of Lessona .

generation

Most of the wine is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety (85–100%) with the possible blending partners Vespolina and / or Uva Rara . The prescribed maturation period for Lessona DOC is 22 months (of which 12 in wooden casks), with the addition of "Riserva" 46 months (of these 30 in wooden casks).
