The province of Biella (Italian Provincia di Biella ) is an Italian province in the Piedmont region . The capital is Biella . It has 188,000 174,384 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in 74 municipalities on an area of 914 km².
The province was established by a 1992 law and came into force in 1996 . It borders the Aosta Valley in the west and is surrounded by the metropolitan city of Turin in the west and the province of Vercelli in the north, east and south.
Culture and sights
In Oropa , the Sacro Monte was built from 1617 in addition to the already existing Marian pilgrimage church, which is one of the oldest places of worship in Piedmont and is of great importance for the faithful. It is a well-known place of pilgrimage and has been recognized by UNESCO as one of the Sacri Monti as a World Heritage Site since 2003 .
