Sizzano (wine)
Sizzano is an Italian red wine from the municipality of Sizzano , Province of Novara in Piedmont . The wine has had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1969 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.
Cultivation
The approved vineyards are located exclusively in the municipality of Sizzano. The cultivation area (<10 hectares) is one of the smallest in all of Piedmont.
Vinification, aging and bottling, on the other hand, may take place in the following municipalities:
- in the province of Novarra: Barengo , Boca , Bogogno , Borgomanero , Briona , Cavaglietto , Cavaglio d'Agogna , Cavallirio , Cressa , Cureggio , Sizzano Novarese, Fontaneto d'Agogna , Gattico , Ghemme , Grignasco , Maggiora , Marano Ticino , Mezzomerico , Oleggio , Prato Sesia , Romagnano Sesia , Sizzano, Suno , Vaprio d'Agogna , Veruno and Agrate Conturbia
- in the province of Vercelli : Gattinara , Roasio , Lozzolo , Serravalle Sesia
- in the province of Biella : Lessona , Masserano , Brusnengo , Curino , Villa del Bosco , Sostegno , Cossato , Mottalciata , Candelo , Quaregna , Cerreto Castello , Valdengo and Vigliano Biellese .
generation
The Sizzano DOC is made from a blend of the grape varieties Nebbiolo (50–70%), Vespolina and / or Uva Rara (individually or together 30–50%) and a maximum of 10% of other grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region. The wine must be stored for a total of 22 months, 16 months of which in wooden barrels; 34 months in total and 24 months in wooden barrels are required for the “Riserva” label.
