Carema (wine)

Carema is an Italian red wine with "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC), which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The wine was described as one of the best wines of Piedmont in the 16th century.

Cultivation

The wines come exclusively from the municipality of Carema , metropolitan city of Turin , Piedmont . The area borders on the Aosta Valley , viticulture is possible in this mountainous area at an altitude of 300 to 650 m, but difficult. The vineyards were laid out in the form of terraces on the steep slopes (→ steep vineyards ). The wine-growing area is one of the smallest in Piedmont.

Production regulations

The wine is made from 85–100% Nebbiolo grapes. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region may be added. The “Carema” must mature for at least 24 months, the “Carema Riserva” must mature for 36 months (of which at least 12 months in oak or chestnut barrels) before they can be sold.
