Alba (wine)

Alba and Alba Riserva are Italian red wines from the area around Alba , Piedmont, which have had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 2010 . The regulations on cultivation zones, grape varieties and the expansion of wines were last updated on March 7, 2014.

Growing area

The growing area includes many municipalities, but production is very low: In 2016, only 62 hectoliters of quality wine were produced from one hectare of vineyards .

The wines "Alba" and "Alba Riserva" are made from the following grape varieties:

  • 70-85% Nebbiolo
  • 15-30% Barbera
  • 0–5% red grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Piedmont region.
