Production regulations
The Barbera d'Alba is about 85 to 100% from the grape Barbera grapes. The grape variety Nebbiolo may be added in a proportion of 0–15%. A minimum expansion period is only required for the Barbera d'Alba Superiore . This must be stored for 12 months - of which at least four months in wooden barrels - before it can be marketed. After a few qualitative difficulties, the wines have been reliably good again since the 1980s.
