List of grape varieties |
Rossese is a synonym for the red wine variety Tibouren from the Italian region of Liguria . In and around Dolceacqua in the far west of Liguria there is a separate DOC area for the variety, the Rossese di Dolceacqua . The ampelographers Dalmassoo and Mariano still distinguish the Rossese from Albenga and those from Dolceacqua.
Rossese is also known under the names Rosseis and Roxeise . The low-yielding, but high-quality variety has been known since the 16th century and probably comes from France . Rossese is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
In Liguria there is also a white grape variety Rossese Bianco (synonyms: Rossese D'Albenga, Bianco di Nizza).

Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The green shoot tip is open. The yellowish, slightly bronze-colored (anthocyanin) young leaves are hardly hairy.
- The large leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are five-lobed and strongly cupped. The stalk bay closed like a lyre. The leaf margin is finely serrated. The teeth are small compared to the grape varieties.
- The cylindrical to cone-shaped grape is medium-sized and moderately dense. The round or slightly oval berries are small to medium-sized and red to blue-black in color. The berries are juicy; the juice is colorless.
The grape variety sprouts relatively early. Rossese is robust against late spring frosts and powdery mildew .
Rossese ripens about 10 days after the Gutedel and is one of the early ripening red grape varieties.
