Rossese di Dolceàcqua (or simply Dolceàcqua ) is an Italian red wine from Liguria . The wine has had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1972 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The last change in denomination was on March 7, 2014. Pope Paul III. was an admirer of this wine.

Cultivation zone

The growing area is in the Nervia Valley around Dolceàcqua , Imperia province ; 23 municipalities or districts belong to it. The vineyards are at an altitude of 300 to 600 m. The wine-growing region is very small - the 49 hectares of vineyards were  shared by 68 winemakers . They produced 2,040 hectoliters of quality wine. (As of 2016)

In addition to areas in Dolceàcqua, vineyards in the municipalities of Apricale , Bajardo , Camporosso , Castel Vittorio , Isolabona , Perinaldo , Pigna , Rocchetta Nervina , San Biagio della Cima and Soldano as well as parts of the municipalities of Vallecrosia , Ventimiglia and Vallebona are permitted.

At least 95% of the red wine must be made from the Rossese grape variety (a synonym for Tibouren ). A maximum of 5% other red grape varieties that are permitted for cultivation in the Liguria region may be added. A small part is offered in superior quality .

The wine must not go on sale before November 1st of the year following the harvest.
