Isolabona (in Ligurian : L'isura ) is a northern Italian municipality with 686 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Liguria region . Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia .

geography

Isolabona is located in the Val Nervia , between the mountain communities of Rocchetta Nervina in the north and Dolceacqua in the south. The place, located on a mountain and surrounded by a city wall, is a typical representative of the Ligurian mountain villages. Narrow streets connect the two main squares, Piazza Piccola and Piazza Grande . On the first there is an octagonal fountain from 1486, while the oratory and the parish church are on the Piazza Grande .

The name Isolabona is derived from the words Insula , which means island in German and refers to the location of the village on an island in the Nervia River , and from the word bona , which can be translated as good and for the warmth and hospitality of the residents, as should also stand for the mild climate.

Isolabona belongs to the Comunità Montana Intemelia  and is about 52 kilometers from the provincial capital Imperia .

According to the Italian classification for seismic activity , the municipality was assigned to zone 3. This means that Isolabona is in a seismically less active zone.
