Cipressa (in Ligurian : Ciprèssa ) is an Italian municipality with 1,226 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Imperia in the northern Italian region of Liguria . In addition to the main town of Cipressa, it also includes the car-free fraction Lingueglietta , a few kilometers above on a hilltop , which is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The most beautiful places in Italy).
geography
Cipressa is located on the Riviera di Ponente at a distance of about 13 kilometers from the provincial capital Imperia . The community consists of the hilltop center of Cipressa and the settlements Lingueglietta and the coastal districts of Piani and Aregai. The district of Gallinaro around Strada Antica Torre consists mainly of holiday homes.
According to the Italian classification for seismic activity , the municipality was assigned to zone 2. This means that Cipressa is in a seismically moderately to highly active zone.

Cycling
In international cycling , Cipressa is well known for the Milan – Sanremo cycling race . Once a year, in the second half of March, the racing drivers pass the place. The incline from the Via Aurelia up is often decisive for the race.
