Lists on the subject

The Truvelo Neostead is a forearm bolt action shotgun from the South African gun manufacturer Truvelo Manufacturers (Pty) Ltd in a bullpup design . It differs from other forearm action rifles on the market in that it has two magazine tubes, which are also located above the barrel. During the repeating process, the movable barrel is pulled forward.

history

The weapon was developed by Heinz Stead around 1990 at the suggestion of the Swiss police. It was first introduced in 2001 under the “Neostead” brand. However, the pre-series production at Truvelo did not start until 2002, the series production then in 2003. Approx. 1,000 weapons of this type were to be produced per month.

technology

The magazine tubes, each with a capacity of six cartridges, are positioned next to one another and pivoted upwards near the muzzle. Similar to a drop barrel weapon, cartridges are inserted into the weapon from above / behind. When the weapon is closed, springs push the cartridges backwards. A selector switch can be used to select one of the magazines or an alternating feed. This means that different types of ammunition (such as shot and shotgun bullets or rubber bullets) can be kept in the magazine tubes.

It is repeated by pulling the forearm of the weapon forward. First the barrel is unlocked and then moved with the fore-end. Any case that may still be in the chamber is held by a latch and then falls down from the weapon behind the pistol grip. At the same time, one of the two magazine tubes is released and a cartridge is pushed under the feeder by spring pressure . The cartridge runs against the butt plate and is pushed down by the feeder. If the forend is withdrawn, the barrel slides over the cartridge and locks.

In addition to the trigger and magazine selector switch, the weapon has a safety lever. This is located in front of the trigger within the trigger guard. A handle on the top of the weapon takes the sights.

The principle of the Neostead was adopted in the Russian RMB-93 rifle.

The Neostead is licensed for civilian acquisition in Canada, but not in the USA. In Europe it is mainly imported to Italy. In Germany, possession of this weapon is prohibited due to the ban on forearm repeater shotguns shorter than 95 cm.
