Tschachitsch church ruins

The Tschachitsch church ruin is a ruin of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephan in Tschachitsch in the KG Waiern in the municipality of Feldkirchen in Carinthia .

history

The church was first mentioned in the 12th century as a branch church of Tiffen . 1190 they gave the Counts of meeting the Stift Ossiach . The altar and bell were from the 16th century. Only six church services are mentioned for 1723, which speaks for a minor importance, as does the multiple changes of the mother parish in the 19th century: first Feldkirchen, then St. Ulrich and finally Glanhofen. The last service was celebrated in 1894. In 1914 it was renovated and in the same year a lightning strike, as a result of which the church fell into disrepair. The altar came to the Diocesan Museum of the Gurk Diocese . The ruin was sold in 1950. In 1985 the ruin was placed under monument protection. In 2005 the ruins were secured and the existing masonry was renovated.

Building

The ruins of the small Romanesque church are in a walled churchyard. The rectangular nave is connected to the recessed choir with a straight end by a round arched triumphal arch. The west portal has a straight lintel supported by fluted pillars. The western gable wall, partly with opus spicatum , the north wall of the nave and the northern choir wall have been preserved. Roman spoils were used in the quarry stone masonry .
