building

The building, made of granite-clad concrete and brown-tinted glass in the brutalist style, was built in the brutalist style at the end of the 1970s under the direction of the architect couple Věra and Vladimír Machonin. When the building was being planned, there was a large open area at Wilhelmstrasse / the corner of Mohrenstrasse that was undeveloped towards West Berlin. The Czechoslovak embassy was designed as a large, free-standing single building of immense width and height, which should have a dominant effect in the room.
