The Tschudi donation is a "Foundation for the permanent memory of Hugo von Tschudis ", 1909–1911 General Director of the Bavarian Painting Collections, which was created by his colleague Heinz Braune 1911–1913 with donations from Berlin and Munich art lovers. In doing so, they protested against the prevailing art policy. It was the first time that the latest French impressionists and post-impressionists came to the Neue Pinakothek in Munich , which until then had been almost exclusively dedicated to 19th century German art. The painting Still Life with Geraniums by Henri Matisse , with which the collection of today's Pinakothek der Moderne began in the first place, was acquired with funds from the Tschudi donation.
