Tui is a New Zealand beer brewery based in Mangatainoka in Palmerston North . It was founded in 1889 by Henry Wagstaff . The trademark is the bird of the same name, known in New Zealand . The brewery's bottles read that Henry Wagstaff stopped at the Mangatainoka River in the spring of 1889 and used the water of this river for his tea. Enthusiastic about the quality of the water, he decided to build a brewery on this river so that the water can be used for brewing in the future. This was the hour of birth of the Tui brewery. Today the brewery is part of the Dominion Breweries .
