Tulliallan Castle

Tulliallan Castle is a mansion in the Scottish village of Kincardine in the Council Area Fife . In 1972 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. Furthermore, together with various external buildings, it forms a category A monument ensemble.

history

In 1798, Admiral George Elphinstone acquired the Tulliallan estate. After Elphinstone was raised to the first Viscount Keith in 1814 , he had Tulliallan Castle built as a mansion between 1818 and 1820. In 1924 the politician Harold Mitchell, 1st Baronet bought the property. During the Second World War , Tulliallan Castle housed a headquarters of the Polish Armed Forces in the west . From 1954 a police school was located there. Today it is the headquarters of the Scottish Police .

Tulliallan Castle stands on the northeastern edge of Kincardine. The large mansion is designed in a neo-Gothic style. The English architect William Atkinson is responsible for the design . The three-story mansion is designed in the style of a castle with reinforcement. Towers rise from the edges. A central projection emerges from the facade in the middle . It is followed by two-story wings.
