Tuluba

Tuluba ( big ears ) is an African elephant who was born on August 6, 2010 in Vienna's Schönbrunn Zoo .

Tuluba is the son of the bull elephant Tusker and the cow elephant Numbi; while his father still lives in the Wuppertal Zoo , Numbi came to Vienna in 2009. He weighed 112 kilograms at birth and had a shoulder height of 93 centimeters. As with the giant panda Fu Long , the zoo operators are hoping for not only lively tourism, but also economic stimuli.

Naming

As with Fu Long, the zoo visitors and users were able to vote on the name over the Internet for five days. Tuluba was able to prevail with a clear majority of 61.4% against the also African names Radi ( Donner , 21.3% of the votes) and Shambe ( leader ; 17.4% of the votes). Over 10,000 votes were cast.
