Tunguska (region)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tunguska is a rather large, not exactly defined region in the southern part of the large Central Siberian Mountains ( Russia , Asia ), which in any case encloses the rivers Upper Tunguska , Stony Tunguska and Lower Tunguska .

The region was best known for the Tunguska event , a large explosion that took place in 1908 on the Stony Tunguska about 65 km northwest of Wanawara and devastated a huge area. Its cause has not yet been fully clarified.

Alan Parsons dedicated the piece Return to Tunguska on the album A Valid Path ( 2004 ) to this event .
