TunnelBear

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TunnelBear (also known as TunnelBear VPN ) is a public Virtual Private Network (VPN) service based in Toronto , Canada . The company was founded in 2011 by Daniel Kaldor and Ryan Dochuk and was acquired by McAfee in March 2018 .

Features

A freeware client version of TunnelBear is available for Android , Windows , macOS and iOS . There is also an extension for Google Chrome and Opera. Alternatively, Linux distributions can be configured to use TunnelBear.

Similar to other public VPN services, TunnelBear can bypass content blocking in most countries. The user can be located in one of twenty countries through TunnelBear (including Ireland , the USA , Sweden and Italy ).

All clients use AES-256 encryption; only the clients for iOS 8 and earlier work with AES-128 . As soon as the user is connected, their actual IP address cannot be read from the websites visited. Instead, the IP address provided by TunnelBear VPN is sent to them.

TunnelBear also offers a version for companies called "TunnelBear for Teams".

Prices

TunnelBear VPN is a so-called freemium product. The free trial version allows the consumption of 500MB of VPN data traffic per month. If this is used up, the user must either disconnect or purchase a monthly subscription for unlimited data traffic. With a subscription you have the option of choosing from different servers with a total of 21 countries. The program can be used on up to five different end devices.
