Evert Nyberg

Evert Nyberg ( John Evert Nyberg; born February 28, 1925 in Gothenburg ; † August 17, 2000 ibid.) Was a Swedish long-distance runner .

Over 5000 m he won bronze at the European Athletics Championships in Oslo in 1946 . At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , he did not reach the finish line over this distance in the final.

In 1955 he became the Swedish marathon champion . Then he won the Košice marathon in 2:25:40 h and was eighth in the Fukuoka marathon . In 1956 he came 15th in Košice in 2:28:26 h and was eighth in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 2:31:12 h.

The following year he was again Swedish champion with his personal best of 2:25:08 h. At the marathon of the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 he finished 58th.

In 1961 he was runner-up in the Nordic marathon in 2:26:37 h. In 1962 he became Swedish marathon champion and came in 18th place at the EM marathon in Belgrade . In 1963 he defended his national championship title.

He was Swedish champion six times in the 25 and 30 km road run (1955–1957, 1960–1962), four times in the marathon (1955, 1957, 1962, 1963), twice over 5000 m (1946, 1956) and in the Cross-country running on the short distance (1955, 1957) as well as once over 10,000 m (1955) and cross-country running on the long distance (1950).
