Along with Helkama, Tunturi is one of the two major Finnish bicycle manufacturers , and home trainers are also produced; previously mopeds were made.
The company was founded in 1922. In the 1970s, Tunturi specialized in fitness equipment long before it became a broad mass market. Experience from bicycle production helped Tunturi to be sold worldwide today. The manufacturer has been part of the Dutch Accell Group since 2003 .
