Turanj (Sveti Filip i Jakov)

Turanj is a village in Zadar County in Croatia .

Turanj is a district of the municipality of Sveti Filip i Jakov , with a little over 1200 inhabitants. It is located on the Pašman Canal . The next bigger places are Zadar and Biograd na Moru .

Turanj is characterized by tourism in summer. The Kornati National Park , located on an archipelago to the west of the coast, is an important travel destination .

Settlement has already been proven in antiquity, as demonstrated by Roman grave finds. The medieval place fell victim to Turkish attacks. Remains of the fortress are preserved in historical buildings, the parish church, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times during fighting against the Turks, is first mentioned in the 15th century. Inside the church there is an old Croatian funerary inscription in Glagolitic script from the 15th century.

The "Black Mountain" is located near the village. From there you have a good view over Turanj to Biograd.
