Sveti Filip i Jakov (Italian Santi Filippo e Giacomo) is a municipality in Croatia in the Zadar County .

Location and inhabitants

Sveti Filip i Jakov is located 3 km northwest of Biograd na Moru and 25 km south of Zadar . The municipality is located on the coast opposite the island of Pašman .

The municipality consists of the six towns of Donje Raštane, Gornje Raštane, Sikovo, Sveti Filip i Jakov, Sveti Petar na Moru and Turanj and has 4,606 inhabitants, of which 1,667 live in the main town of Sveti Filip i Jakov (2011 census).

history

When it was still part of Yugoslavia, the village was called Filipjakov in order to remove its religious origin. In the 12th century the small church of St. Philip and Jacob (Sveti Filip i Jakov) was destroyed. The place got its name from this church. Today the community lives from tourism.
