Preko (Italian Oltre , literally translated over there ) is a Croatian settlement roughly in the middle of the east coast of the island of Ugljan with 1,286 inhabitants. The municipality has 3,805 inhabitants (2011 census). It is the administrative center and, thanks to the only ferry port on the island, also the island's transport hub.

In front of the port of Prekos there are the islets Osljak and Galovac, the closer surroundings of the place consist mostly of maquis . The economy is based on agriculture, viticulture, olive growing, fishing and tourism. Many residents also commute by ferry to Zadar, about 30 minutes away, directly across from the Pašman Canal . As a result, the place shows many features of a suburb of Zadar.

Buildings

The town center consists of typical Dalmatian architecture, on the coast there are partly wooded sandy and rocky beaches. The Romanesque church of St. John the Baptist dates from the 12th century, the baroque parish church was built in the 18th century.

St. Michael's fortress from the 13th century stands on a 265 meter high mountain above the town . The castle, which was built by the Venetians around the former Benedictine monastery, has now fallen into ruin, and in its center there is a broadcasting mast that can be seen from afar.
