Privlaka ( Italian Brevilacqua ) is a village in northern Dalmatia in the Zadar County in Croatia . It is located 18 km north of the city of Zadar . The oldest town in Croatia, Nin , is 5.5 km away. Privlaka has 2,253 inhabitants (2011 census) and is a popular place for tourism and fishing .

history

Privlaka has been considered inhabited since prehistory, as Illyrian barrows and Roman writings have been found. The village was mentioned in writing for the first time on April 10, 1296.

However, in 1570 the medieval settlement was destroyed by the Turks .

An important preserved building is the Roman Catholic St. Vitus Church built on a barrow . Today the service takes place there only once a year, on June 15th (St. Vitus's Day).

The climate in Privlaka is - as usual in Dalmatia - mild and Mediterranean .

With its 2,540 hours of sunshine a year, Privlaka is very attractive for many holidaymakers (especially families).

Most of the vacationing families come mainly from Germany , Austria and Italy . The large sandy beach in Privlaka, which attracts guests with its beach bars, is popular with tourists.

The healing mud in the shallow water is considered good medicine for chronic diseases such as rheumatism, arthritis or asthma.

In addition to many smaller, mostly privately rented apartments, there is a large 4-star hotel near the beach called Laguna , which was opened in 2006.

Traditions

The festival Privlačka noć (“The Night of Privlaka”), which takes place on August 4th of each year, is a longstanding tradition . An integral part of the festival is the appearance of the folklore group of the local art and culture association.

In addition, the carnival festival usually takes place in February each year.

Sports

As in all of Croatia, football and basketball are the most popular sports in Privlaka. There are numerous basketball courts where the young people usually meet in the afternoon and a football club called Sabunjar Privlaka , which is named after an old sand extraction technique .

education

There is a primary school in the center of Privlaka.

Personalities

Josip Skoblar (* 1941), a Yugoslav football player and coach, was born in Privlaka.
