Life

Ladenberg was born in Magdeburg and studied law at the universities of Halle and Bonn . He then worked as a trainee lawyer, assessor and war and domain council in Berlin. In his novel Effi Briest, Theodor Fontane narrates as a tragicomic anecdote that Ladenberg, "when he received the Order of the Red Eagle after a long wait, threw him aside angrily and with the exclamation:" Lie there until you go black. "Probably he was afterwards too Turned "black", but many days too late and certainly without any real satisfaction for the recipient. "
