Povljana (it. Pogliana ) is a municipality in Croatia in the Zadar County .

Location and inhabitants

Povljana is located in the southern part of the island of Pag on the coast. Opposite is the island of Vir, separated by the Povljana Channel. The location protects the community from strong winds such as the Bora and the Jugo .

The municipality of Povljana has 759 inhabitants (2011 census) and lives mainly from tourism.

history

Povljana has been inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by excavations in Stara Povljana (old Povljana). Tourism has grown in importance since 1954. Povljana is one of the larger tourist resorts on the island of Pag.
