Škabrinja is a Croatian city in the hinterland of Zadar . It is located in the middle of the Ravni kotari region .
Škabrnja municipality
The Škabrnja municipality was established in 1992 . Before that it was part of the municipality of Zadar and only became independent with the independence of Croatia. The localities Škabrnja and Prkos belong to the municipality . The first municipal council meeting was held on April 13, 1993 in the large council hall of the city of Zadar.
history
A ton urn from the 8th century was found in Škabrnja. This comes from the time when the Croatians were not yet Christianized. These urns were burial supplements filled with food for the afterlife.
On November 18, 1991 the place was attacked by the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and Serbian irregulars. The Škabrnja massacre took place .
Coat of arms and flag
Description of the coat of arms : In blue a gold- nimbed , silver winged bull guarding an open gold book .
Symbolism: A silver (white) winged bull is depicted on the coat of arms of the municipality of Škabrnja, with a gold nimbus around its head . The bull lies and holds an open, golden book. This book symbolizes the evangelist Luke, the patron saint of the community.
The flag is solid red and the ratio of length and width is 2: 1. In the middle of the flag is the gold rimmed coat of arms. The red color represents the victims and those who died from Škabrnje.
Attractions
- The Church of St. Luke from the 13th century, which was damaged both at the end of the 17th century and during the war in Croatia . But these have been remedied.
- The Church of St. Marija from the 11th century, originally dedicated to St. Jure was dedicated. The remains of an ancient building and a medieval cemetery have been found under the church.
