Kali [ ˈkaːli ] is a touristy Croatian municipality on the island of Ugljan , in the immediate vicinity of the city of Zadar and about 3 km southeast of Preko .
population
With 1,638 inhabitants (2011 census), Kali is the largest town on the islands off Zadar.
geography
Kali lies between two harbors in the northeast of the island and extends to the bays of Lamljana in the southwest. The old village center with narrow streets and stone houses in the Dalmatian style is located on a hill, from which there is a view of the surroundings.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1299. The village is dominated by the bell tower of the Baroque church of Sveti Lovre , the patron saint of Kali, which was built in 1698 and rests on the remains of an older building. In front of the church, every day in July or August, at the time of the full moon, there is a fishing festival for the tourists and residents of the village. On the hill above the village is the small St. Pelegrin Church from the 14th century. Kali is the birth town of Josip Mišlov , a lieutenant colonel of the fascist Ustaše .
