Turlough ( Irish Turlach ) is a village with 1245 inhabitants, about seven kilometers northeast of Castlebar in County Mayo in Ireland . It is known for the "Museum of Country Life" (part of the National Museum of Ireland ) and for its well-preserved round tower , which was built between 900 and 1200, despite its height of around 23.0 m . Turlough is one of the seats in the FitzGerald family .

Turlough is also the name of the surrounding 241 hectare townland along the Castlebar River ( An tSiúir in Irish ) on the N5 (road). Around the village there are burnt mounds , cillins , a row of stones and a sacred spring .
