The TurtleBot3 is a programmable mobile robot from the manufacturer ROBOTIS . It is the third model in the TurtleBot series and was released in May 2017.

The small, ROS -based robot is used in training, research, as a hobby and in product prototyping. The goal of the TurtleBot3 is to significantly reduce the size of the platforms (compared to its predecessor, TurtleBot2 ) and to lower the price without sacrificing functionality and quality. The TurtleBot3 can be adapted (or expanded) in various ways, for example by modifying mechanical parts or installing and connecting new sensors.

construction

The TurtleBot3 consists of modular plates, the shape of which can be adjusted by the user, a base plate, two electric motors, a 1,800 mAh battery, a 360-degree LiDAR system, a camera and a single-board computer ( Raspberry Pi 3 and Intel Joule 570x ).

The TurtleBot3 is supplied as a hardware assembly kit that contains all parts and can be expanded with additional sensors.

technology

The core technology of the TurtleBot is SLAM , which makes it suitable for home service robots .

The TurtleBot can run SLAM (simultaneous location and mapping) algorithms to create a map and can drive around a room (or building). It can also be remotely controlled via a computer, gamepad or Android -based smartphone.

TurtleBot is a licensed trademark owned by the Open Source Robotics Foundation (OSRF). OSRF and ROBOTIS are cooperation partners.
